Safety Tips

At Shrent, our mission is simple: we bring people in need of a rental item in contact with someone who's willing to rent out that item. When you meet up in person to exchange that item, your safety is your responsibility. Be smart when arranging a meet-up. In the event of an emergency or if you feel that you're in danger, immediately call 911 or your local emergency number.

General Tips

  1. Never share confidential information with another person (i.e., passwords, social security numbers, bank information, etc.)

  2. Don’t share your phone number. Chat only through Shrent platform. Communicating outside the platform makes it harder for Shrent to protect you and puts you at greater risk of fraud and other security issues.

  3. Keep yourself safe by staying on our secure platform throughout the entire process – from communication to booking to payment. You should never be asked to wire money or provide credit card information for any transaction.

  4. Do not send money outside of the Shrent platform

  5. Upon meeting check that their identity matches the user’s identity who you’ve been corresponding with.

  6. Meet in an open, highly trafficked area such as grocery stores. Pick a safe place, during a busy time.

  7. Please use common sense and do not put yourself in any uncomfortable situation.

  8. Let us know if there is a problem with a user.

  9. Report suspicious online activity immediately.

  10. If you feel that you are in danger, call 911 immediately.

Tips for Owners

  1. If you are an Owner, we encourage you to require a profile photo from anyone renting your items. If they do not have one, please ask for photo ID at time of item exchange.

  2. During drop-off, take proper documentation of the condition of your item, with location and time stamps. We require time-stamped pictures to help with a dispute. Mobile devices generate location information and time stamp whenever pictures are taken.

  3. During return, take another time-stamped picture to document condition of item at time of return. We require time-stamped pictures to help with a dispute. This information is mandatory.

  4. Ensure the renter knows how to properly use your item. Provide written or emailed instructions of usage.

Tips for Renters

  1. If you are a Renter, we encourage you to pick a listing where the Owner has uploaded a profile picture. If they do not have one, please ask for photo ID at time of item exchange.

  2. Please do your due diligence in testing and reviewing the condition of the item you’re renting before you accept rental. Ask questions and test item. You have the right to politely decline rental if it is not in proper working condition. We cannot offer refunds once the item has been accepted by renter.

  3. Ask Owner to properly show you how to use item. Get all necessary instructions.

  4. If anything is unclear or you want more details, ask Owner. Feel free to ask for more photos.

  5. Use proper safety precautions when using item. Follow manufacturer’s instructions.

  6. During item pick-up, take proper documentation of the condition of the rented item, with location and time stamps. We require time-stamped pictures to help with a dispute. Mobile devices generate location information and time stamp whenever pictures are taken.

  7. During return, take another time-stamped picture to document condition of item at time of return. We require time-stamped pictures to help with a dispute.

  8. Return items by the end of the rental period. Any time that is not returned within 24-hours of the end-of-rental period will be reported as stolen to authorities. You must book another transaction if you wish to extend your rental period.
